I offer an overview of Alessandra Tanesini’s discussion how best to educate for intellectual virtue in the final chapter her book The Mismeasure Self. identify unifying theme behind most objections existing approaches, namely that they fail instil proper motivations virtue, and raise issue about whether preferred approach, self-affirmation, avoids this worry. argue it is not clear does; particular, it’s left unclear self-affirmative interventions are meant encourage a person’s evaluations their own achievements capacities be motivated by accuracy or knowledge, as Tanesini requires them if intellectually virtuous rather than vicious.
